Until now I was the only user in my computer and I didn't need to use any password, but I remember that I did store one for the admin when I installed windows XP.
My roommate asked me to use my computer and after he messed up one of my files I decided to add another user and to block the access to some of the folders. Everything went great and I created the User, changed the folders setting and the way you login to my computer. When I did restart I have 2 users, but I forgot the admin password and I can't login with my user only the new user I created. I can't change anything because the new user have limited access. I can't believe I did something so stupid, please help I am desperate.
SOLUTION
- XP. Go into safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeatedly as the computer starts up. You will be given a choice on which "mode" you'd like to start Window in. Choose Safe mode. Then (in safe mode) click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes). You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrator's account and will be able to reset the password. Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password
- Just start the computer in safe mode and then click change user accounts and remove the password on that account...simple...
- press F12 and ctrl at the same time to unlock...
- if u r able to get erd bootable cd than simple boot from that cd and remove your admin password
- Just a Simple n experimental Solution.
Attach your HDD to different Computer and browse through your disk then do the following task
Rename your SAM File located in \windows\system32\config\SAM to SAM1
Copy SAM from \windows\repair\SAM and paste it in \windows\system32\config\SAM
Attach back again to your computer and it will work with blank administrator password. means logging in to admin account without password...
Enjoyy......... - I have done this solution but I am not an expert, so I do not guarantee anything. Do it at your own risk. You should first connect your HD to a different computer and backup all the important information:
Here is how to reset your password:
1. Install an alternate copy of Windows NT.
2. Boot up the alternate install.
2. click on Start->Control Panel->System->Startup and change the default boot instance to your original install.
4. In the original Windows folder, go to System32 sub-folder.
5. make a copy of logon.scr, the default logon screen saver script, rename it to logon123.scr
6. Delete logon.scr.
7. make a Copy of CMD.EXE and rename it to logon.scr.
8. Shutdown and restart your original install.
9. Wait until the command prompt appear it might take some time so be patient.
10. Type: net user administrator 1234567
11. Delete the logon.scr from %SystemRoot%\System32.
12. Rename the saved logon123.scr back to logon.scr.
Now you should be able to login as administrator with password 1234567.
* if you have a different user name for administrator use it instead. - Just a note:
If you wish to remove the alternate install:
1. Delete its' folder.
2. ATTRIB -R -S -H c:\BOOT.INI
3. Edit c:\BOOT.INI and remove the alternate install's entries.
* If you've used a different partition to install the alternate install then now you can simply delete or format that partition if you don't need it anymore, plus edit c:\BOOT.INI and remove the alternate installation entries. - yes i have solution 4 this scenario
at first u must have 2 boot frm cd rom and then press 'R' to repair os

dowload tweakui from microsoft power toys
use tweakui to show the administrators account (in normal mode)
provided one of your other users is an administrator you can
just change the password from the other administrators account
leave it blank for no password or put in a new one
if the other users are not administrators you will have to use some other method shown in other answers - i have read almost all the solutions in this page..
i have experienced the same problem 2.. but its not because of forgotten password but want 2 access computer illegally..
there is 2 way i know how to remove administrator password.. and control all users password in windows xp.. okay st technique..
If u can access administrator in safe mode..

Now u have access to all users in computer.
This is if u don't have access to the computer.
u go to this website:

U can get the free version by clicking the link below
http://wareseeker.com/demo/emergency-boot-cd-0.6.1-pro/244668/ebcd-0_6_1-pro-sfx.exe

Notes: - u can log on to administrator by press CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your keyboard without safe mode. In the user name enter administrator and enter
